Der Dokumentarfilm "Loose
Change" der 2005 mit einem 10000 $ Budget von Dylan Avery
(22) Korey Rove (25) produziert wurde, hat in den USA eine große
Popularität erreicht.
Nachdem im März dieses Jahres auf einem Lokalsender (Fox 40) im
Bundesstaat New York an zwei Tagen durchaus positiv über den
Film berichtet wurde, kam Bewegung in die Sache. An vielen
Universitäten wurden freie Vorstellungen organisiert und Leute
begannen auf eigene Kosten abertausende von DVDs herzustellen und
kostenlos zu verteilen.
Die Produzenten weisen in diesem Zusammenhang ausdrücklich
darauf hin, daß das Copyright für ihren Film ausgesetzt ist.
Auf Google Video wurde der Film inzwischen ca. 200.000mal
heruntergeladen und ca 3.000.000 mal angesehen.
Untertitel Versionen gibt es bereits in
mehreren Sprachen
Ende April erschien in der Tageszeitung USA Today ein Artikel
über den Film.
In der US-amerikanischen Medienlandschaft scheint sich ein
Machtkampf abzuzeichnen.
Nachdem in der Vergangenheit Fragen zu den wahren Hintergründen
des 11.9.2001 zumeist systematisch ignoriert wurden und Artikel
über angeblich haarsträubende Verschwörungstheoretiker
lanciert wurden, beginnt diese einseitige Berichterstattung jetzt
langsam aufzubrechen.
Zwischen dem 22. und 27.3.2006 z.B. berichtete CNN in einer
landesweit ausgestrahlten Sendung über ein Radiointerview mit
Schauspieler Charlie Sheen, in dem er eine neue Untersuchung der
Vorgänge des 11.September forderte und die Vermutung äußerte,
daß die USA Regierung aktiv in die Anschläge verwickelt war.
In den Sendungen kamen Vertreter der 9/11 Truth Bewegung zu Wort,
die Sheens Zweifel an der offiziellen Darstellung der Anschläge
bestärkten und ausdrücklich eine neue unabhängige Untersuchung
forderten.
Außerdem unterstützten während der Sendung Sharon Stone und
Schriftstellerin Erica Jong das Recht Charlie Sheens, die
Regierung Bush in dieser Frage anzugreifen.
Nachdem über diese CNN Sendung in der Presse, sowohl in den USA
als auch in Europa ein totales Medienblackout bestand, hat
inzwischen eine Kampagne gegen Charlie Sheen eingesetzt. Seine
inzwischen von ihm geschiedene Ehefrau hat kurz nach der CNN
Sendung eine einstweilige Verfügung erwirkt, die ihm untersagt
sich ihrem Haus mehr als 300 Meter zu nähern. Grund sind
angebliche Morddrohungen von Sheen gegen seine geschiedene
Ehefrau und ihre Eltern, sowie unterstellte Internetbesuche auf
Pornoseiten mit Fotos von minderjährigen wirkenden Darstellern
beiden Geschlechts.

"Loose Change," a controversial film on the events of
9/11, will be shown Friday night as part of an independent film
festival at Hartwick College.
Written and directed by Dylan Avery of Oneonta and produced by
Korey Rowe of Oneonta, "Loose Change" challenges
official explanations of how the World Trade Center collapsed and
the Pentagon was damaged on that fateful day.
"What if September 11th was not a surprise attack on
America, but rather a cold and calculated genocide by our own
government?" the filmmakers ask on the case of their DVD.
"We were told the twin towers were hit by commercial
airliners and subsequently brought down by jet fuel. We were told
the Pentagon was hit by a Boeing 757," they say.
"We were told that Flight 93 crashed in Shanksville, Pa. We
were told that 19 Arabs from halfway across the globe, acting
under orders from Osama Bin Laden, were responsible.
"What you will see inside," they say, "will prove
without a shadow of doubt that everything you know about 9/11 is
a complete fabrication."
Avery said Wednesday that he set out a couple of years ago to
create a fictional movie based on the events of 9/11, but as he
compiled background information, he became convinced the true
story was not being told.
Fascinated by snippets from news reports and other sources that
suggested the World Trade Center might have been demolished, and
the Pentagon damaged by a missile rather than an airliner, he
said, he decided to make a documentary asking hard questions.
During most of this time, Rowe was a soldier in the U.S. Army,
serving first in Afghanistan and then in Iraq.
Avery and Rowe, both 22, have been good friends for years and
stayed in touch while thousands of miles apart.
Rowe said Wednesday that at first, he was intrigued but not
convinced that his friend was on to something.
"It didn’t seem possible and it took a long time to
sink in," Rowe said. While serving in Afghanistan, however,
he observed television reporters filming staged battle scenes
that were later presented as real battles to viewers, he said.
"That started me thinking more about it," he said, and
his experiences in Iraq further undermined his faith in official
explanations, he said.
Now out of the Army, Rowe teamed up with his longtime friend to
produce "Loose Change."
"The response so far has been incredible. We’re sold
out of DVDs right now, but I think it may take us another two
years to really make it," he said.
Several thousand copies of the film have been distributed, and
Avery and Rowe have asked viewers to make copies and pass them on
to their friends.
Told about the film Wednesday, William Wilkerson, chair of the
political science department at the State University College at
Oneonta, said, "It’s hard to imagine that what
they’re saying is true."
Wilkerson said that while few believed the World Trade Center
would collapse after being hit by airplanes, the collapse
doesn’t prove it was blown up by the government.
"Remember, the Titanic was supposed to be unsinkable, and
yet it sank," he said.
Wilkerson said he would like to see the film before commenting
more about it.
"Loose Change" will be the second of two movies to be
shown Friday night and will follow a screening of "Anytown,
USA," a close look at an unusual mayoral race in Bogota,
N.J. "Anytown USA" will begin at 7 p.m. and "Loose
Change" at 8:45 p.m.
Saturday night, the Hartwick College Theatre and
AstralPictures.com will present "Laughing Boy" at 7
p.m. and "Red Cockroaches" at 8:35 p.m., according to
Dan Pelletier, intern production manager for Theatre Arts at
Hartwick.
"I think the best films today are being made by ordinary
people," he said.
All four of these films are thought-provoking, and "Loose
Change" is chilling in its implications, Pelletier said.
The films are free to the public and will be shown in the
Anderson Theatre on campus.

Called Loose Change, it is being downloaded from the Internet and shown in small screenings here and overseas. It is not alone in the genre, and it is not unusual in American history either to offer simplistic explanations or demonize opponents. Presidents from Andrew Jackson to Lyndon Johnson were accused by their contemporaries of massive government conspiracies.

Professors and researchers of film and politics say the Internet is making it far easier to spread such theories because the traditional media are losing their hold on the news. The immense coverage of controversies and accusations surrounding the war on terror has created fertile ground for people who assign their own interpretations to photos, footage, eyewitnesses, investigations and newspaper accounts of what happened, they say.

Made by Rowe and friend Dylan Avery, 22, from Oneonta, N.Y., on a laptop computer for less than $10,000, the film contrasts sharply with United 93, a film opening Friday that portrays the struggle for the jetliner that crashed in Shanksville, Pa.
Internet chat rooms are full of promos for screenings of Loose Change in such locales as the Santa Cruz Veterans Memorial Building in California; the Université de Sherbrooke, Quebec; Graz, Austria; and a theater in London's Soho district.
"It's been breaking like nobody's business the last two months," says Taub, 36, who is sponsoring a showing Tuesday night in Oakland. "It's all over the place."

"They aren't truth-tellers looking to save the world," she says. "They're con artists hoping to sucker conspiracy-theory paranoids or anti-government malcontents into shelling out their hard-earned dollars."
Some college students who saw Loose Change and are promoting it say it's good to raise questions.
The film offers "at the very least suggests that we don't know the whole truth, and that some things are quite fishy," says Matt Latham, a freshman at the University of California, Santa Cruz.

‘Loose Change’ tries to make sense of 9/11
In the five years since Sept. 11, both opponents and supporters of the War on Terror have produced countless conspiracy theories, and "Loose Change" picks up where neo-liberal Michael Moore's "Fahrenheit 9/11" left off.
The UB Progressive Alliance sponsored a showing of the documentary on Friday afternoon at Knox Hall, and students gathered to screen the movie and then discuss points with film director Dylan Avery, producer Korey Rowe and Jason Bermas, the project's graphic director and webmaster.
Similar to Moore's controversial documentary, "Loose Change" challenges that important facts were ignored or not even presented to the public. Going one step further than Moore's film, though, "Loose Change" contends that the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks were actually coordinated and carried out by members of the U.S. government.
The film alleges that the government would be smart in the decision to execute such a plan, saying that they would have a lot to gain from it. Not only did the government have a motive, but they also had the equipment to carry it out and the opportunity to do so.
"I see the truth coming out in a couple of years," said Jason Bermas, a "Loose Change" production assistant. "The issue won't invoke emotion from the people until they see the information. Then barriers will breakdown."
The film cites the case of Flight 77, among other incidents on that day, to support the theory that the US government was behind 9/11. The plane crash left a 16-foot hole in the Pentagon, and based on the size of the plane, much more damage should have resulted. Instead, the movie claims that a cruise missile, and not the plane crash that was reported in the media, caused the damage to the Pentagon.
The movie elaborates even further, saying that there is no actual footage of a plane crashing into the Pentagon. All that was shown of the incident was an explosion, and never any contact made between the plane and the building. Furthermore, no bodies were ever found at the scene.
The documentary advocates more than distrust and loathing of the government. The film also conveys that the public needs to be more active and aware of what they are fed by the media, saying that the government does not provide accurate information and misleads their audience.
And while many of the movie's points seem far-fetched and on the verge of a conspiracy theory, the audience was receptive and accepted these ideas as plausible explanations.
"I was impressed with the documentary," said Carlos Lizarraga, a junior nursing major. "The best part was the discussion. You got to see that it was real and not B.S."
Kristina Lucenko, a graduate English student, agreed and said the documentary made a number of valid points.
"I do not trust the Bush administration, and it's commonplace at this point that the federal government has not released to the public information about the attacks," Lucenko said.
She also said she believes the movie's suggestions because society places such a high value on being patriotic; speaking out against the US government's decisions are all too often frowned upon, and with that mindset permeating the media, "Loose Change" offered a fresh perspective.
"We are so afraid to express sentiments and ideas that are being constructed as 'un-American,'" Lucenko said. "We're living in a very conservative time, and I believe that we are being misled by our government."

9/11 questions explored in new documentary 'Loose Change – 2nd Edition'

LOOSE CHANGE – 2ND EDITION
Produced by Korey Rowe and directed by Dylan Avery, the documentary LOOSE CHANGE – 2ND EDITION explores many troubling questions about the 9/11 attacks using scientific analyses, eyewitness accounts, historical facts, television news footage and many other resources.
The gut-wrenching television news coverage from that day is combined with detailed examination of hard data, theories and apparently unusual circumstances. It is a fast-paced yet steady presentation of objective analysis and uncomfortable possibilities.
Rowe and Avery cover many of the discrepancies in the preliminary explanations about what actually occurred on 9/11 in regard to the World Trade Center attacks, the Pentagon attack and the crash of Flight 93 in Pennsylvania.
They also look at important background information regarding motive and opportunity of possible perpetrators, as well as who might have benefited from the attacks.
This documentary goes beyond the theory that the attacks by 19 hijackers might have been allowed to happen through incompetence or to achieve some desired outcome in manipulating the American and international public and media.
LOOSE CHANGE – 2ND EDITION clearly tries to make the case that the attacks were something quite different: They were part of a complex plan organized from within.
WORLD TRADE CENTER ATTACKS
By looking in depth at the collapse of the World Trade Center Twin Towers and Building 7, the documentary uses scientific analyses of why it is unlikely that the impact of the aircraft and heat of the fires caused the buildings’ collapse.
In short, that heat from the fires and trauma from the impact of the aircraft could not have brought down these buildings.
Based on witness accounts, including those of FDNY firefighters and TV news reporters, this documentary indicates that the buildings were brought down by pre-planted explosives, set to create a controlled demolition. Audio of firefighters' radio transmissions that report multiple secondary explosions are included.
Unusual activities at the WTC prior to 9/11 include the disarming of security cameras and the removal of bomb-sniffing dogs, according to sources used in the documentary.
Other factors are explored, including information about the planes' "black boxes," explosions in the basement levels of the buildings and other unusual aspects of the attack on and collapse of the WTC buildings.
PENTAGON ATTACK
Covering familiar ground on one point, the documentary indicates that a passenger jetliner did not hit the Pentagon. Rather, they suggest the attack may have involved a military-type aircraft and a cruise missile, not a Boeing 757.
Surveillance video cameras in the area were confiscated and the video has never been released.
Air traffic controllers reportedly thought the aircraft was a military plane based on its speed and maneuvers.
The type of damage done to the Pentagon also appears inconsistent with a 757 crash. The lack of aircraft parts on the scene is another anomaly. Parts that were found do not match those of a 757, according to data presented in the documentary.
It reports that witnesses smelled cordite, an explosive. The fireball upon impact resembled and explosion from cordite, not jet fuel.
FLIGHT 93
Witness testimony from the area near Shanksville, Pennsylvia, is presented that describes a white military-type jet near the site of the crash of Flight 93.
Other theories about that crash and a mysterious small white jet have speculated that Flight 93 was shot down.
However, this documentary makes the claim that the flight actually did land in Cleveland, where the passengers disembarked due to a “bomb threat” and were taken to a facility nearby.
CONSPIRACY THEORIES
Rowe and Avery have put together one of many conspiracy scenarios that have been suggested about the events of 9/11. They don’t try to answer every single question, and they raise many new ones. For the questions they do try to answer specifically though, the information presented does make the viewer think and wonder.
Their use of a wide range of video, audio and print resources as well as visual and computer-generated representations, help the viewer grasp many of the complex factors being examined.
LOOSE CHANGE – 2ND EDITION is available for viewing on the Web and on DVD. It is a work worth seeing and hearing that makes us wonder about what occurred on 9/11 and if we have been told all the facts.
Of greater concern, it makes us consider our roles as Americans, patriots and human beings in a very difficult time in the life of our nation.
